InnovaWood is a Brussels-based non-profit association founded in 2007, with about 60 member organisations in 28 countries. The mission is to provide a forum for the members and partners to share knowledge and latest information, create synergies and collaborations, and follow innovation trends providing strategic orientation in the European R&I ecosystem in response to the global challenges.
Following the launch of the New European Bauhaus by the EC President Ursula van der Leyen in 2021, the Wood4Bauhaus Alliance was founded by the main umbrella organisations of the European wood sector CEI-Bois, EPF, EOS, EFBWW and the scientific partners InnovaWood and InnoRenew CoE. The Alliance establishes an open policy advocacy platform to encourage research, co-creation and skills development for novel and innovative use of wood in the built environment. Uwe Kies is the chair of the W4B Alliance.
Uwe Kies holds a MSc in forest information technologies from HNEE and a PhD in natural sciences from the WWU University of Münster in Germany. As an experienced manager and coordinator, he has gained broad expertise in forest-based industries and has a long record in European-funded projects in forestry, wood and innovation-related topics under FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
